Projects

My major research interest is interplay between plankton communities and biogeochemical cycles, e.g. how zooplankton interact with the downward flux of organic matter from the surface to the deep ocean ("biological pump"). To improve our capabilities of ecological observations, I develop various technologies such as underwater camera systems to investigate plankton in their natural environment. Such novel tools can help us to resolve small-scale spatial and temporal distribution patterns of pelagic biota and illuminate how marine ecosystems respond to ongoing climate change.
