The Day of German Unity 2015

At the festivities for the Day of German Unity in Frankfurt, the Cluster of Excellence “The Future Ocean” presented the results of research and outreach together with the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel in the Schleswig-Holstein exhibition tent.

From October 2nd to the 4th, the official festivities for the 25th anniversary of the Day of German Unity took place in Frankfurt am Main. In the finance metropolis in the federal state of Hessen on the ‘Ländermeile’ – a group of booths with presentations from the different German states, the state of Schleswig-Holstein presented interesting insights into the deep sea and current topics of marine and coastal research.

The exhibition was developed by the Cluster of Excellence “The Future Ocean” and by the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel. For the first time, the Helmholtz Centre Geesthacht for Matieral and Coastal Research was also present with a 70 square meter high mobile dome and the animated film “Uhrwerk Ozean” (“clockwork ocean”) this year.

Apart from commentaries on the exhibition, visitors could write their questions that could not be answered right away in a guestbook. The answers to these questions can be read on the blog platform of Kiel’s marine sciences, www.oceanblogs.org.
