15. March 2012 Kiel Marine Research in London

“Future Ocean” and GEOMAR at the Oceanology International Exhibition and Conference

From March 13th to 15th the Cluster of Excellence “The Future Ocean” and the Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (GEOMAR) are presenting deep sea technology and research results at the Oceanology International.

Over 500 exhibitors are presenting their new products and services from all areas of industrial marine technology at Europe’s largest marine technology exhibition with more than 10,000 visitors. The two institutions from Kiel are part of the joint stand from Northern Germany, organized by the Business Development Corporation of Schleswig-Holstein (WTSH). The GEOMAR working group “Energy and Raw Materials” is demonstrating the new underwater vehicle ROMP (remotely operated measurement platform), still under development. The Cluster of Excellence “The Future Ocean” is presenting software developments in the area of photogrammetry as well as navigation and positioning and the presentation of an innovative biofilm sensor. With the Trade Fair Mentoring program the Excellence Cluster offers interested PhDs the opportunity to gain experience in an industrial environment in addition to presenting their own research at the exhibition. “The presentation of Kiel Marine Research was very well received by the visitors and we were able to make a lot of interesting contacts.” said Dr. Warner Brückmann, head of the working group “Energy and Raw Materials” at GEOMAR and Future Ocean member at the conclusion of the event.
