01. December 2016 Development of a new international network for integrative ocean research

"The Future Ocean" welcomes 100 international experts for integrative ocean research for developing the scope for new international transdisciplinary ocean research activities in a workshop on 4-5 December 2016.

On 4-5 December 2016 "The Future Ocean" hosts an international "Workshop on the Development of an Integrative Ocean Research Network". About 100 international experts on integrative ocean research had been selected to participate in this workshop aiming at developing the scope for new international transdisciplinary ocean research activities that could be pursued within an integrative ocean research network over the coming years.

In the two-days-workshop participants from research, conservation organizations, politics, and industry discuss ideas on how to assemble representatives from several existing academic and practitioner communities dealing with ocean sustainability to co-design priority research activities. They will discuss core ideas, practicalities, and expectations for an integrative ocean research network, including a synthesis of outcomes of recent, related workshops. One further goal is to identify prospective partners (including non-academic, action-oriented groups and industry) and possible funding institutions, and to support the creation of a Development Team for the Ocean Research Network, and to define their roles and responsibilities.

The workshop is financially sponsored by Future Earth, International Council for Science (ICSU) and Future Ocean. Future Ocean members are welcome to join the poster session on 4 December 2016, from 19:00h at the Ostseekai Kiel.
