Particular focus was put on the presentation of options for action to solve societal questions of the future, with which, for example, the three new Cluster of Excellence proposals of Kiel University deal. As part of the Schleswig-Holstein Day on Monday of the industrial fair, the respective speakers, among them Martin Visbeck for the Future Ocean, together with the Schleswig-Holstein Minister of Science Karin Prien and the President of Kiel University Lutz Kipp, spoke to an international audience.
The topics of the stage program and the exhibition focused on the areas of tech and social solutions as well as innovative visualization concepts, new opportunities for observing the ocean (interplay of highly technically upgraded racing yachts and tailor-made measurement technology) and efficient processing of large amounts of data (Digitalization in research). At the same time, the human-ocean relationship was also taken into account and speakers from the Cluster of Excellence "Future Ocean" explained how fundamentally - despite the highest technological progress - humans are dependent on natural resources from the sea.

Week Exhibits
Interactive digital poster "Ocean observation - from sensor to knowledge"
The interactive poster shows the changes in the surface temperature of the oceans based on time series measurement data and provides an overview of the different observation systems in the world's oceans.
EcoOcean - the fisheries management game
The interactive game teaches that fish stocks are an important resource whose sustainable management can be far more profitable economically than is possible through the current fisheries policy. The online game ecoOcean, which is used equally in research as well as in public relations, takes up this challenge and shows with ease that high catch rates do not necessarily achieve the best result. During ecoOcean, the players themselves become fishers and have to develop the best possible strategies for sustainable fisheries.

Once again Kiel University (CAU) presented its excellent research at the Hannover Messe. Under the motto "Ways to Solutions" the state university demonstrated: science affects society in many different ways. It contributes to exchanges, solves tricky problems and creates new scenarios. All this awaited guests in Hall 2 (Research & Technology). This time, together with our partners: State of Schleswig-Holstein, the City of Kiel and the European XFEL. Participation at the trade show focused on presentations and exhibits associated with cutting-edge research, the transfer of knowledge, patents and initiatives to establish companies. Presentations and panel discussions rounded off the varied program during the week. All information can be found here: www.uni-kiel.de/hannovermesse
