22. March 2020 Learn about the ocean from home

Registration for the English-language online lecture series "One Planet - One Ocean: From Science to Solutions" possible at any time

Those who want, in times of retreat, to learn more about the ocean can register at any time for the free English-language online course "One Planet - One Ocean: From Science to Solutions".

Marine researchers from Kiel University (CAU), the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel and partners at the International Ocean Institute Malta (IOI) provide information on the topics "Marine Ecosystems", "Coasts", "Fisheries and Aquaculture", "Ocean and Climate", "Ocean Sustainability" and "Marine Life and Resources".

Until September 15th, 2020, the six modules, accompanying assignments and a variety of background materials are accessible via the SDG Academy educational platform at https://sdgacademy.org/course/one-planet-one-ocean/. Compact information on the topics and participating researchers can be found at www.oceanmooc.org.

The MOOC's goal is to show the impact of humans on the ocean and to raise awareness of the need to use the world's largest interconnected ecosystem and its resources in a more sustainable way. The virtual lecture series is open to everyone. Prior knowledge is not required. In addition, the material is available at all times so that course participants can work on the topics offered independently, at their own pace and in their own chosen order. There are no fees.

The Massive Open Online Course is aimed at all those interested in learning more about this fascinating habitat and offers targeted course content especially for students in Master's programmes as well as advanced bachelor's students in oceanography, geography, earth sciences, environmental sciences, environmental law, sustainable development, economics or related fields.
