25. January 2021 Networking in times of the Corona pandemic

New Friday event series for researchers of the Future Ocean network

In times of pandemic, personal scientific exchange suffers especially for researchers in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary networks. A new digital event series is intended to facilitate the exchange among marine scientists in Kiel and their partners in the future.

Since no short-term relief is expected in 2021, there will be regular digital events and workshops organized in the future as part of the Future Ocean Network and under the leadership of Kiel Marine Science (KMS) at Kiel University. The aim is to bring researchers from different disciplines, faculties and from Future Ocean partner organizations together to develop ideas for new proposals or collaborative projects and to inform about current developments in the areas of research projects, research policy and career development.

To this end, Fridays, preferably around lunchtime, are to be established as a fixed date for the "Lunchtime Events" exchange formats described in more detail below.
In principle, they are aimed at all interested scientists, but some of them are tailored to a specific target group.

Future Ocean Network Event

Future Ocean Postdoc Events
Network event with presentation of a research area and career path

The aim of the event series is to offer postdocs, mainly from Kiel University but also from university partners, a regular exchange format and to network with their peers at non-university partner institutions, especially GEOMAR, but also the Kiel Institute for the World Economy and other Kiel institutions.
Everyone who is active in the marine sciences or sees points of connection is invited. In addition, to offer space for scientific exchange and networking with their peers at the non-university partner institutions, especially GEOMAR, but also the Kiel Institute for the World Economy and other Kiel institutions.

Goal: Networking and professional exchange
Frequency: Monthly, 1st Friday of the month

Workshop series with the University of Gothenburg (Center for Ocean and Society).
Topic-specific exchange of expertise with short presentations.

The regular exchange between researchers from Kiel Marine Science (KMS) and the Future Ocean Network, which has been ongoing since late 2019, has been so promising that a collaboration has been successively intensified. The two universities and their partners have many synergies, similarities and potential areas for joint projects in research and education. Also, the variety of disciplines involved at both universities and the focus on trans- and interdisciplinary research are arguments for a closer connection, which should lead to joint research proposals in the future. For the exploration of promising topics, a workshop series is to be implemented in 2021, which will be organized under the leadership of the Kiel Marine Science (KMS) office.

Frequency: 2-monthly, alternating with FO network events, 2nd Friday of the month.
Start 2021: January 15, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Goal: Networking, joint proposals
Participation: members of the Future Ocean Network, Kiel Marine Science (KMS) and partner institutions.
Registration: Admission to the Future Ocean Network with short info about institution and motivation to mail address: info@futureocean.org
