Who cultures whom?

Kiel Marine Organism Culture Centre (KIMOCC) intends to accumulate, maintain and provide marine organism culture know - how and cultures for CAU and GEOMAR scientists. KIMOCC collaborates with scientists to realize a number of ambitious culturing projects and serves as a contact point for scientists that wish to work with marine organisms.

Marine Microbiology
Cultured marine species/taxa:
various marine microorganisms:
“The collection of marine microorganisms in the Marine Microbiology of GEOMAR includes bacteria, fungi and protists that were sampled from various marine habitats (foci: deep-sea, Arctica, microbial communities on marine macroorganisms, Baltic Sea, Wadden Sea). The collection includes more than 10 000 bacterial and fungal strains that cover a wide spectrum of taxa. We are always ready and willing to make representatives of selected taxa available (on request). Examples are the bacterial genera Pseudomonas, Pseudoalteromonas and Streptomyces, anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria (e.g. Chlorobium, Allochromatium, Rhodobacter), ascomycota and basidiomycota (e.g. Dendryphiella, Lulworthia, Corollospora) as well as the stramenophile protists.”
