In summer, about 500 researchers from a total of 73 countries applied for the tour, which includes stops in the Northern German cities Hamburg, Kiel, Rostock, Potsdam, Berlin and the island of Riems this year.
The international delegation with researchers from 17 different countries travelled to Hamburg for the kick-off of the Science Tour. In Kiel the top-class scientists from the different subject areas marine sciences, economy, meteorology, climate research and epidemiology were welcomed by Professor Ralph Schneider, spokesperson of the Cluster of Excellence “The Future Ocean” and Director of the interdisciplinary research network Kiel Marine Sciences (KMS), as well as by professors from various research areas, such as paleoclimate research, computer sciences, mathematics and marine biogeochemistry. “The DAAD Science Tour is a welcome occasion for us to participate in interdisciplinary exchange and initiate new research collaborations”, says Professor Ralph Schneider. “Usually, we only meet such top-class scientists at specialist conferences. That’s why we are particularly pleased to welcome the DAAD Science Tour in Kiel this year.”
The international exchange on the topic of „Modelling the Future -- Understanding Global Challenges through Computer-Based Modelling and Simulation” took place from 14:00 to 17:00 pm in the Centre for Molecular Biology at Kiel University.
