4th Kiel Marketplace: Maritime Raw Materials – Exploration and Exploitation
For decades crude oil and natural gas have been extracted from the oceans. For a long time there was little interest in the natural gas and mineral deposits in the seafloor. This has changed dramatically in recent years. There are several reasons for this. China's industrial growth has increased demand. The quality of deposits on land has decreased. Furthermore political and strategical interest in mid to long term securing of raw material supply has increased greatly. Under advantageous market circumstances, marine mineral deposits offer a potential supplement to terrestrial supplies of these raw materials in the future.
The fourth Kiel Marketplace will highlight the current state of play as well as future trends in this dynamic market: current research approaches will be explained followed by a classification according to political critera and international law. In additon the potential for economic resource exploitation will be presented. This event will be rounded off with reports of practical experience in excavation.
This event will take place on 10th March 2011 at 16:00 in Kiel Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Dr. Sven Petersen and Prof. Uwe Jenisch are the main speakers. The talks will be conducted in German.
